- Pete's S-Works Road Bike Stolen -
Please be on the look-out for a Red/White Specialized S-Works Road Bike.
It has Dura-Ace components, Mavic Wheels with Kenda C2C tires, Carbon Aero Bars,
Carbon seat post. Speed play pedals and a Polar CS600 Power System. - The bike
was stolen form Pete's vehicle outside our San Diego home on March 29, 2009.
The locking cable was cut in two, the
straps to the Raxter rack were also cut apart and my bike stolen.

► Tour De Fort 12 Hr Solo Endurance Race - 1st overall Traditional Bike finisher
and 2nd overall behind an enclosed Recumbent.
► Furnace Creek 508 - I'd been sick for the last couple weeks before the FC508
race. I thought I had knocked it down, well I was wrong and I DNF-ed FC508. I
stopped around mile 400 - 25 or 26 hrs into the race when I basically had a
total system shutdown. When I got home, went to the Dr's and found out I started
the race and was racing with pneumonia. I was bed ridden for the 48 hrs and
before feeling a little better.
► Death Ride in Markleeville, CA (129 miles and 15,000 climbing) - Sub 9 hours
► Racing the Race Across AMerica this June - View Pete's Profile DNF after 2,300
miles.
► Qualified as a solo racer for RAAM (Race Across America) at the 2006 Heart of
the South 500, a 510-mile road race from Birmingham, Ala. to Ellijay, Ga. and
back. Finished in 39 hours 17 minutes. (www.heartofthesouth500.com). Racing solo
the 2008 RAAM with Wendy Gardiner as crew Captain.
► Was one of only three to complete the entire 2006 Georgia Brevet Series’ rides
of 200k, 300k, 400k and 600k; Wendy Gardiner was also one of the three (www.rusa.org).
► Completed the 2006 Furnace Creek 508 (a 508-mile continuous road race) as a
two-person team with Wendy Gardiner; finished 3rd in our division in 33 hours,
14 minutes. (www.the508.com).
► Tied men’s course lap record for solo racers at the 2006 Tour de Fort 12-hour
road race at Augusta’s Fort Gordon Army Base. Completed 14 15-mile loops (210
miles) in 11 hours, 50 minutes. 1st upright bike finisher and 3rd overall to
include recumbent bikes.
► Finished 456th out of 3,926 in the 109-mile event at the 2006 El Tour de
Tucson in 5:09.43. Finished 502nd out of 4,018 in the 109-mile event at the 2005
El Tour de Tucson in 5:09.42. The was a one second difference from last year to

► Completed the 2006 6 Gap Century in Dahlonega, Georgia (with nearly 11,000
feet of climbing) in 6:05 and was in the top 50 finishers out of 2,000 riders.
Note - There was a major downpour for most of the event.
► Have coached and trained over 150 beginner to pro-level road racers, mountain
bike racers and triathletes the past four years, where I recommend nutritional
products and equipment to use in training.
► Finished in the top 10 in the Death Valley Double Century, fall 2005.
► Organize and lead training and fun rides both on the road and dirt on a daily
to weekly basis. I have these groups ride in organized events to push sponsor
exposure.
► Completed a large number of centuries, double centuries and Brevets since
2004.

Who is Pete Masiel?
Pete Masiel who originally is from Lindsay, CA is now a Captain at Monte Vista
Emergency Communications Center in San Diego, CA. He has been with the USDA
Forest Service since April 1988. From 1999 to 2001 Pete had collateral duties on
a Type 1 Incident Management Team as a computer technical specialist for
California Team 5. Pete has a MCSE certification, Web Master and many other
computer certifications; which he attained at USDA Graduate School in
Washington, D.C.
As a Wildland Fire Fighter, Pete battled many large forest fires all over the
United States as part of a Helicopter Rappel Crew, Hotshot Crew and Engine Crew.
Since 1997 after having had back surgery from a work related injury, Pete has
worked as a Dispatcher and is now assigned on the Cleveland National Forest.
Pete also volunteered with the Kern County Sheriff Department for 7 plus
years in the early 90's. Before the Forest Service, Pete was a U.S. Marine where
his job was Crash, Fire and Rescue. While in the Marine Corps, he received the
Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Highest peace-time medal for Heroism). He was in
the Marine Corps for just under 11years.

recently with Robert Hurtado. It would be so cool to get in touch with more
great people from the past!
I lived in Lindsay and Strathmore, CA from birth to 1977 while growing up when I
went in the Marine Corps. I was stationed in CA, TN, CA, NC, CA, AZ and
Japan and back to CA.
After leaving the US Marines, I went to the work for the Forest Service and
lived at Kernville, Lake Isabella, Bodfish, San Fernando Valley, and now live in
San Diego, CA.
