At
11:35 p.m. We took our breaks. Wendy slept first for two hours, and about an hour later Pete slept for two hours. While I was asleep, Wendy was talking with the police Sgt. Darrell McPherren. April 6th - 2am A few days ago during a phone interview Wendy and Pete were referred as "HEROES"; We want to be clear, that the true heroes are the burn victims that continue to go forward everyday! We really hope that the Burn Institute and Burn Foundation both are receiving donations. Lets help send the kids to Burn Camp! Till our next update- Pete and Wendy On April 4th, we will start our attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest time on a stationary bicycle. The previous record is 85 hours; our goal is 96 hours. Our world record attempt will occur at Zumwalt's Bicycle Center, 6425 El Cajon Blvd San Diego, Ca. 92115; starting on April 4 at 8 a.m. and ending on April 8th at 8 a.m.; where we'll ride 24 hours a day for 4 days (with the exception of brief breaks as outline in Guinness World Record rules). We will eat on the bike as well as add/remove appropriate clothing while riding for weather conditions. To make things interesting, we'll be riding outside and using powerful night-riding bicycle lights (provided by NiteRider) on the stationary bikes (as if we were really out riding), and wearing appropriate "weather" cycling apparel. We could really use your support of our cause for awareness. During this time, we'll be asking for donations to benefit our charities and to assist us in racing in what Outside magazine called one of the toughest sporting events in the world! The benefiting charities are the San Diego Burn Institute and the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. With your partnership of our RAAM team, you will assist these charities, our team, and receive prominent branding on our three vehicles that will trail us for an estimated 8 days for 3,000 miles. We invite you to be a part of the excitement, while benefiting worthwhile charities, and bringing more exposure to your company. Why start April 4th and end on April 8th? Besides being Easter Sunday, it will be Pete's 48th birthday, 8th year of cycling and the lost 80 pounds since he started cycling (see cool facts on left side). The current record is 85 hours, our plan is 96 hours. We will ride as long as we can. Wendy and I hope that by riding side by side we can motive each other to keep going. So why are we doing this???? Pete And Wendy will ride stationary bikes and attempt to break the world record of 85 hours to help raise funds and awareness to San Diego Burn Institute, Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and for their RAAM race. They will continue to raise additional funds and awareness as they Race the Race Across AMerica (RAAM). Helping One Dollar At A Time.
Also, in order to compete in RAAM solo, racers must qualify at certain events and complete that event within a specific time period. While team competitors don't have to qualify for RAAM, Wendy and Pete did qualify in a 510-mile race called the Heart of the South 500 ( http://www.heartofthesouth500.com ). We have been doing endurance road cycling for over 2 years now and have a goal to do RAAM this year as a 2-person team, then Wendy solo in 2008 and myself solo in 2009. To do this, we'll have 2 pace vehicles and an RV following us along the route, along with about 9 crew members. So with these complex logistics, our expenses are substantial. So we are seeking corporate sponsorships that we would promote on our pace vehicles, along with other opportunities at RAAM and other events we're doing this year. See RAAM and RAAM NEEDS on left side panel, or make a donation. So who are we personally? Let us briefly introduce ourselves. We are elite endurance cyclists with very impressive cycling and professional resumes. While in the Marine Corps, he received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal (Highest peace-time medal for Heroism). He was in the Marine Corps for just under 11years.
