Record - ► Qualified as a solo racer for RAAM (Race Across America) at the 2006 Heart of the South 500, a 510-mile road race from Birmingham, Ala. to Ellijay, Ga. and back. Racing solo the 2008 RAAM with Pete Masiel as crew Captain. ► Was the first woman in the HOS 500 race to qualify for RAAM solo and the only woman to finish this event. She holds the record of 46 hours 41 minutes. (www.heartofthesouth500.com) ► One of the first women in Georgia to qualify RAAM Solo at a RAAM qualifier. ► Set new course record for solo 35-39 women’s RAAM Qualifier 24 Hour Non-Drafting Event at 24 Hours of Sebring—Sebring, FL in Feb 2007 ► Completed the 2006 Furnace Creek 508 (a 508-mile continuous road race) as a two-person team with Pete Masiel; finished 3rd in our division in 33 hours, 14 minutes. (www.the508.com). ► Set new course record for solo women’s racers at the 2006 Tour de Fort 12-hour road cycling race at Augusta’s Fort Gordon Army Base. Completed 12 15-mile loops (180 miles) in 11 hours, 33 minutes surpassing the previous record of 10 laps. Was the 5th overall finisher of all solo male and female racers. ► Finished in the top 10 in the Death Valley Double Century, fall 2005. ► Was one of only three to complete the entire 2006 Georgia Brevet Series’ rides of 200k, 300k, 400k and 600k; Pete Masiel was also one of the three (www.rusa.org). ► Named the fastest Georgia woman at the 2005 and 2006 El Tour de Tucson. Was actually the fastest Georgia person in 2005 both men and women. ► Qualified for Platinum level at the 2005 El Tour de Tucson by finishing the 109-mile event in 5:09.49. Finished in the top 20 female riders and was the 535th to finish out of 4,018 riders in the 109-mile event; 10,000 riders total competed in all distance categories. Also qualified for Platinum level at the 2006 El Tour de Tucson (www.pbaa.com). ► Completed the 2006 6 Gap Century in Dahlonega, Georgia (with nearly 11,000 feet of climbing) in 6:02 and was the second woman to finish.
► Completed the 2005 6 Gap Century in 6:10 and was among the top 5 women finishers. ► Completed the 2004 6 Gap Century in 6:15 and was among the top 5 women finishers. ► First woman finisher at the All You Can Climb Century (Huntsville, Alabama) in June, 2005. ► Coach and train numerous athletes from beginner to experienced where she recommend nutritional products and equipment to use in training. ► Completed a large number of centuries, double centuries and Brevets since 2004.
Who
is Wendy Gardiner? Another passion for Wendy is
writing and has written several articles about our events. While at UAB,
Wendy received awards for some of her writings. She was also Newsletter
contributing writer for the Atlanta Sports Council, March 2001-December
2002. Last year she had one of her stories published in “Happy Tails” book
where she wrote how we came to adopt a stray kitten in Los Angeles. Wendy
has superb computer skills and can create awesome power points and photo
movies with narration and music for DVD releases of events. Wendy has also
completed the Chicago Marathon before she got into cycling, and was an elite
rock climber for over 3 years. |
