Let us briefly introduce
ourselves. We are elite endurance cyclists with very impressive
cycling and professional resumes.
Pete Masiel who originally is
from Lindsay, CA is now a Captain at Monte
Vista Emergency Communications Center in San Diego, CA. He has been with the
USDA Forest Service since April 1988. From 1999 to 2001 Pete had collateral
duties as a computer technical specialist for Incident Management Type 1
Team 5. Pete has a MCSE certification, Web Master and many other computer
certifications; which he attained at USDA Graduate School in Washington,
D.C.
As a Wildland Fire Fighter,
Pete battled many large forest fires all over the United States as part of a
Helicopter Rappel Crew, Hotshot Crew and Engine Crew. Since 1997, after
having had back surgery from a work related injury Pete has worked as a
Dispatcher on the Cleveland National Forest. Pete also volunteered with the
Kern County Sheriff Department for 7 plus years in the early 90's. Before
the Forest Service, Pete was a U.S. Marine where his job was Crash, Fire and
Rescue. While in the Marine Corps, he received the Navy and Marine Corps
Medal (Highest peace-time medal for Heroism). He was in the Marine Corps for
just under 11years.
Wendy Gardiner who grew up in
Birmingham, AL now resides in Acworth, Ga.
(a suburb of Atlanta) and has 6 years of marketing, communications and
event-planning experience. She is currently on contract with Peloton Sports
and the Tour de Georgia. Wendy’s educational background consists of a
Master’s of Business Administration (MBA), along with Bachelor's degrees in
Communications and Spanish; she received her education at the University of
Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). While at UAB, Wendy was an Athletic Academic
Advising Director. She was also the newsletter editor, writer, media
coordinator for the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics
(N4A), June 1996-March 1999.
Another passion for Wendy is
writing and has written several articles about our events. While at UAB,
Wendy received awards for some of her writings. She was also Newsletter
contributing writer for the Atlanta Sports Council, March 2001-December
2002. Last year she had one of her stories published in “Happy Tails” book
where she wrote how we came to adopt a stray kitten in Los Angeles. Wendy
has superb computer skills and can create awesome power points and photo
movies with narration and music for DVD releases of events. Wendy has also
completed the Chicago Marathon before she got into cycling, and was an elite
rock climber for over 3 years.
